Five ways to wellbeing

Picture
As the pandemic continues, so does the feelings of the unknown. Many of us will have different levels of anxiety, anger, stress, frustration, low mood etc. so it’s more important than ever to look after our wellbeing. Setting small targets that can help improve wellbeing, so we feel more focussed and able to cope. We encourage our young people and families to follow the five ways to wellbeing. It’s a great way to help boost wellbeing and improve mental health...
CONNECT
For many of us living with anxiety, stress, anger and/or low mood can be isolating so building a support network and staying connected to others is vital. Covid19 can limit how we stay connected but we can still do it virtually. Have a virtual cuppa with friends and family, pick up the phone and call someone. Staying connected and chatting about how we feel can really help reduce the feelings of isolation.
GIVE
The lockdown has given us time to stop and reflect. Clear out those cupboards and donate old belongings that are no longer needed or used. If we can’t donate the items now then put them to one side until it’s safe to do so. Give a donation to a charity, make something and give it to someone as a present – we all love to receive something nice through the post.
TAKE NOTICE
Taking notice of what’s around us can boost wellbeing and keep us grounded at times of stress and anxiety. It helps us to remain calm, focussed and relaxed. Just stop! And look around, either inside or outside while on that daily walk. Notice what’s around you, what do you see? Notice how your feeling, your mood and how your breathing.
KEEP LEARNING
Learning new skills or researching something of interested can be great to keep our brains active. So sit back and enjoy a documentary, read a book or get creative with arts and crafts. Learn a new instrument or get cooking and try out new recipes. Just give it a go!
KEEP ACTIVE
Although we are currently living within restrictions we can still get active! Go for a walk/run and get outside and enjoy the fresh air or maintain that exercise routine at home by taking part in a virtual workout online or running up and down the stairs. Do a dance class or create a mini gym at home so you can still workout and keep active while in lockdown.

As this difficult time continues, looking after ourselves is more important than ever, so even if you give just one of the above a go then we hope it makes you feel better and more positive as we move forward together.
